Professional Strengths
Amy Sonnenberg is an MSW intern who specializes in working with children, adults, and families, focusing on misunderstood or challenging behaviors. With a passion for helping caregivers, parents, and educators, Amy uses mindfulness-based strategies, compassion-focused therapy, trauma-informed approaches, and positive behavior support to create a supportive, compassionate environment for growth.
Experience and Education
Amy is particularly dedicated to supporting families with children who have Autism, ADHD, ADD, and other neurodivergent traits. She believes that when adults develop greater self-compassion and self-understanding, they are better able to connect with and support the children in their lives. This connection fosters emotional regulation and creates a safe space for children, particularly those with misunderstood behaviors, to thrive.
Her professional journey includes working with children in various settings, including her time at The Sammy Center and The Children’s Center Utah, where she engaged with kids, modeled positive behaviors, and implemented trauma-responsive practices. She has also worked as a wellness intern, teaching mindfulness and movement lessons, and supporting caregivers and educators in cultivating a compassionate environment for children’s growth.
Amy holds a Bachelor of Family, Community, and Human Development with a Minor in Psychology, as well as an Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Certificate from the University of Utah. Amy is currently pursuing her Master’s in Social Work at the University of Utah.
