Professional Strengths

Alexa Minson is a compassionate therapist with a strong focus on trauma-informed care, crisis response, and child and adolescent mental health. She works with children and teens, creating a safe and supportive environment where clients feel heard, understood, and empowered in their healing.

Alexa is especially passionate about working with youth who have experienced trauma or instability, including those navigating the foster care system or aging out of care. Having personally aged out of foster care herself, she brings a unique level of empathy and understanding to the challenges these young people face. Alexa is committed to helping teens build resilience, process trauma, and develop a stronger sense of identity and hope for their future.

She also enjoys working with teenage girls who are navigating eating disorders, self-esteem concerns, and the pressures of adolescence. Alexa has extensive experience helping children and teens process abuse, trauma, emotional regulation challenges, and difficult life transitions in developmentally appropriate ways. Her goal is to create a space where young people feel safe enough to share their experiences and develop healthier coping skills.

Experience and Education

Alexa holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work with a minor in Marriage and Family Studies and a Master’s degree in Social Work with a focus on mental health and clinical practice.

Her professional background includes a wide range of direct-care and clinical experiences. Early in her career, Alexa worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant supporting elderly adults, which helped develop her compassion and caregiving skills. She later worked with children with disabilities, including ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder, providing structured support and individualized developmental activities.

Alexa also gained valuable experience working with adolescents in residential treatment settings, where she implemented trauma-informed interventions to support youth experiencing behavioral challenges, emotional dysregulation, and social insecurity.

Most recently, Alexa served as a Crisis Response Social Worker with the Salt Lake City Police Department. In this role, she co-responded to mental health calls involving individuals across the lifespan and from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. She provided crisis stabilization, brief intervention, and connections to community resources, demonstrating her ability to remain calm and effective in complex situations.

Personal Invitation

“I approach therapy with authenticity, empathy, and a deep belief in the power of connection.  I understand that seeking support can feel vulnerable, and I strive to create a welcoming space where clients feel safe to share their experiences and begin the healing process.

Whether I’m working with a child navigating trauma, supporting a teen through life’s challenges, or helping families strengthen their relationships, I bring warmth, understanding, and a steady commitment to helping clients grow and thrive. I look forward to partnering with individuals and families who are ready to begin their journey toward healing and meaningful change.”
