Experience and Education
Alexa Minson’s educational background and hands-on experience reflect a strong and well-rounded foundation in social work and mental health services. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work with a minor in Marriage and Family Studies, and a Master’s degree in Social Work, with a specialized focus on mental health and clinical practice.
Her professional journey began in direct care roles, where she gained valuable experience working with elderly adults as a Certified Nursing Assistant. She later transitioned into supporting children with disabilities, including ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder, providing individualized care, structured routines, and targeted developmental activities. This foundation in caregiving instilled in her a deep understanding of neurodiversity, emotional regulation, and the power of consistent support.
Alexa has also worked in residential treatment settings with adolescents, implementing various interventions to address behavioral challenges, social insecurity, emotional dysregulation, and trauma-related concerns. Her approach balances structure and empathy, integrating trauma-informed strategies to support youth in building trust, self-awareness, and coping skills.
Most recently, as a Crisis Response Social worker with the Salt Lake City Police Department, Alexa has engaged in frontline mental health work with individuals across the lifespan, representing a wide range of ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds. She has co-responded to calls involving housing insecurity, acute psychiatric symptoms, substance use, and trauma, offering stabilization, brief intervention, and coordinated community referrals. Her ability to remain calm and effective in complex situations underscores her strength in navigating the realities of systemic inequity and community-based crisis care.
